I'm not even quite sure how to begin this entry as my brain's swarming with so many things, particularly this week. I don't even have a title as I write this so be warned, there's bound to be extensive babbling broken up by some pictures.
I think the reality of being a 30 something singleton in a small, sleepy community that they have the nerve to label a city has hit home. From comments I've heard back, some of you didn't realise that Scott and I have been broken up for a couple of months. Don't worry, it's a good and mutual thing, we make better friends than boyfriend and girlfriend. But his leaving has made me realise that life as a single person on the Miramichi leaves something to be desired. Let's see, my options are; 1) Young men that like to play video games, 2) Married men or those that are in a relationship, 3) Someone who's gay or bi, 4) Someone that's strung out on drugs and spending their spare time at the methodone clinic. Needless to say, none of the above are relationships I'm interested in persuing!
I know I've spent five years travelling abroad but being back home has brought the reality back as to why. I've spent the last week trying to get some brainstorming done for a roadtrip. Thoughts of a trip to Ontario to get to see Matt, Brian and Brent seemed like a great idea until the voice of reality (otherwise known as Darcy) intervened. Yup, it could get a little costly 'cause no matter how much we kid ourselves, we're not going there without wanting to do, "things." We're also working very hard at getting a trip in to Gornish to see Coll and Dan but storms and days off keep rearing their twisted heads. We thought that during a trip to Gornish we could head over to Crabbe Mountain to participate in a little bit of skiing but Liss and her fear of heights don't make for a good ski trip. Of course, any time I'm ever skiing it's take a couple of runs then head to the lodge for a few cups of courage. I don't think Liss'd be real happy about being abandoned in the lodge all day by herself though. Wanna keep her company Coll?
So the best I could come up with was Italy. Needless to say, my friends won't be accompanying me on this, ummm, roadtrip but it's somewhere I've always been drawn to. My dating record has paired me up with three different Italian men (love them) and I love the food so no major culture shock. Not to mention the beauty of the place. It's a win-win situation, right?
Please don't get me wrong, I love all my friends dearly and any girl would thank her lucky stars to have been so blessed with such a wonderful motley crue for entertainment. But there has got to be more to life than this. I've come to the conclusion that we're going to have to take all the single women on the Miramichi (belive me, with the Alberta exodus, there's lots of us) and meet the Anchorage men somehow. I guarantee you, the ratio's got to be similar.
What does one do in the meantime for entertainment? Well, I do manage to find some but winter on the east coast can leave one limited which is why not so many blog entries in the last few weeks. One thing I did manage to do last weekend (even though I was feeling a little under the weather) was have a party with my friend Caprice whom I met while working at ICT. She's having a breast reduction surgery on the first of february so in true Caprice fashion, she had a going away party for, "The girls."
Another thing that has given me a great source of entertainment is the Skidd's animals. I've always tried taking pictures of their cat Teddy but my focus would never work on him, probably because of all his hair, where does it begin? My new camera finally enables me to get decent pictures of him. So now I present to you, the many faces of, "Teddy..."
In this first one, Liss opened a can of tuna. I like this one 'cause it shows how truly big he is...
In this one, he's examining the contents up close...
This one he's rolling around and half hanging off the chair. He's so social and loves sitting at the kitchen table with us...
Here all he wants is food and he'll even take it out of the dog's dishes. Poor starvin' thing....
And of course, no Skidd pet pictures would be complete without a picture of Jake. When we say he's a lap dog, we're not kidding. Here he is in my lap...
Just for fun, I thought I'd include some videos as picture don't truly capture the essence that is, "Jake." In this video, Jake and Kate have to go pee. We know what they want but it's still fun torturing them. Jake's so vocal when he gets all worked up. Even Kate's carrying on but I love how they're both jumping around. In this video, we're torturing Jake over the squirrels. Yup, he is a bird dog but he seems to like squirrels too. I love how it sounds like he's answering me back, you can almost hear the words.
We've also had a co-op student that joined us from MVHS. Sherrie usually takes one kid in a semester. Katie, our girl this year, really hit it off and has actually gotten accepted to hairstyling this fall. Our association makes tough regulations, so tough that we couldn't even let the poor girl do shampoos. I'm sure the days got long for her as there's only so much hair you can sweep, towels you can fold and observing you can do. I asked her if she actually learned something. She said she learned that it was something she'd like to do for a living. That's good enough for me. She was so sweet and funny to have around, miss you Katie...
l-r- Me, Katie, Ashley
I would have to say, the most entertainment I've seen the last few weeks was a curling funspiel that Marybeth got Liss, Darcy, Kari and Nick signed up for. I'll let Liss give more details on it but I know one thing, I sure wish I didn't have to work that day as it looked like lots of fun. Instead I got to see them play their last game, go back to their place while they got freshened up and go witness some of the most *ahem* interesting karaoke I've seen in a long time. The Dawson boys had nothing on some of these numbskulls.
Before karaoke could get under way, we had to sit through the awarding of the prizes. Marybeth did a great job as MC (think we have some video of it on her camera, wonder if she found it yet?) and everybody got to go home with something. Nick practically got a standing ovation at one point. They drew names out of hats for the remainder of people and his was one of the first names drawn. After twenty more names were called and he still hadn't found anything, we began to wonder. Finally he trundles back over with a $5 gift certificate for Tim Horton's, proclaiming he already had everything else. By this point, everyone else had noticed his lack of decision making as well.
The rest of the crew got some interesting prizes. Liss came back with a hot pink rubbermaid container that may be the first thing that Darcy doesn't initial, "D.Skidd." Good thinking Liss. Kari and Darcy also come out with some cool aluminum stools. You can never have too many places to cop a squat, I guess.
"Gordioke Karaoke," was in town to put together the entertainment portion. I must say though, I have to agree with, "Garioke Karaoke," -Kari as it seems to roll off the tongue so much easier. With such hits as, "Staying Alive," (don't worry Liss, vid's deleted) and, "Twist," it was almost like I was at a wedding. But when three doctors got up there to sing, "Summer of 69," totally out of key, we knew it was time to go home. Thank goodness Mark (Liss' Dad) arrived when he did as I think I would have been walking home from French Fort Cove. Hey Mark, have I said, "Thank You," yet?
A few random pictures as we're sitting around the table. I had about 5 seconds to prepare for this picture Darcy took. I'm still trying to heed the warning, "Don't forget to smile," which is the warning I got after posting the last few blackmail pictures of them. Future note to self, don't take it to the opposite extreme...
Not sure if Marybeth finally discovered all the pictures/videos on her camera here or not but I like how her and Darcy are framing the dancefloor...
I must say, Nick has now become my favourite candid subject as it seems that every picture the boy takes is hilarious. In this picture, Kari's in the middle of telling him something, "naughty." They still won't tell us what it was though...
I can't for the life of me remember what song was playing here but with this picture, I don't think it really matters...
With this next picture, upon review later in the evening, we've now dubbed Kari with the title, "face of vogue optical." I love this picture of the three of them as it sums up how good of a time we had...
This next picture we tossed around whether to post or not as we don't want to hurt anyone but it was a big thing for all of us so I feel it should be included. Winston did this in memory of Marilyn and it was beautiful, as emotional as it was. Every time Liss threw her rock, she did well with it...
I guess when you put it all out in words and pictures, life on the Miramichi isn't totally boring, definately monotonous by times yes but life is what you make it. I guess I'm just going to have to suck it up for awhile and hope that maybe it's just the winter blues as it's definately winter here now. We've already gotten more snow now than we had all year last winter. I love the snow though so that's not it.
In the meantime, I'm going to try going back to volleyball on mondays and wednesdays in hopes that it'll get me through the dolldrums.
At least Newcastle's closer than Italy and I don't have to pack a suitcase.
'Til next time...

Ok, for this game I thought I'd do something that was always my favourite online game but didn't think we'd be able to do as we can't post pictures in the comments. What we'll have to do is post links though, can everyone do that? Just copy it out of your web browser window and paste it in here. In order to go to it though you'll have to copy it out of here and paste it in your browser window as I don't think they come up as hyperlinks in the comments. Everyone understand so far?
RULES- basically it's a scavenger hunt of sorts. I'll tell you something that I'd like to see a picture of, you go and find it, copy/paste the link in here and name the next thing you'd like to see. Got it? If so, I'll start then and any questions, feel free to let me know.
"A lighthouse"
Just want to see if it comes up as a hyperlink or not.
http://www.lighthouse.cc/whitlocksmill/index.html
Just tried it and nope, can't paste pictures and it's not a hyperlink. You'll have to copy the above link and put it in your browser (where you see the web addy at the top of your pages) in order to view it but now that you have the idea, I'll throw out the next one...
"The biggest cat you can find"
Good post Kim...so glad you deleted the "Stayin Alive" video (that would have been a bad scene)! Love the pics of Nick, they're priceless! (As usual!) And a road trip is always just around the corner! :)
Now..here's the link to the biggest cat I could find..
http://www.ebaumsworld.com/2006/07/worldcat.html
I'm sure there are others, but this one is a monster! Makes Teddy look like a baby! :)
I'd like to see a picture of some huge mountains with a sunset.
"Vatis," it? Copy/paste it and see...
http://www.eugenewei.com/images/southamerica/argentina/ushuaia/images/sunset-lit-mountains.jpg
Thanks Liss, I got to see some pretty pictures while looking for that one. :)
I'd like to see a person hanging from a horse's neck please?
Nice picture Kim! Great job! I'm not so sure the picture I found is what you asked for, but the person is hanging from the horse's neck! :)
http://www.torontoist.com/archives/2006/12/the_daily_photo_1.php
Oh yeah, just remembered, I have to ask for one now! Ha ha!
OK..I think I'd like to see a really nice picture of Johnny Depp! :)
I don't know what's going on with that last picture (horse) Liss but it's not bringing one up. It'll come up but not the horse. Probably because it looks like a daily paper of sorts and they've already updated. Ah well, close enough. Got to see a man in stilts hugging someone though. :D
Now, as for your picture, (it's not the most photographically accurate) I know I like this picture as your imagination can truly go wild...
http://wetmen.provocateuse.com/show/johnny_depp/03
How about a hot picture of Matthew McConaughey?
Hey Kim,
Great post, if you ever wanted to take a trip to Ottawa your more than welcome to come and stay with us. We have a few extra rooms and everything as I'm sure Liss told you about. I understand what you mean about living on the river, it's hard on you when your single. It's bad enough that almost everyone takes off these days. Good luck on that end.
As for the game, great idea. I'm not liking the whole show a picture of hot guys type of thing... but I'll play along because my request is next!!
Here's your link: http://i62.photobucket.com/albums/h105/leigh_198124/matthew-mcconaughey-instyle01.jpg
As for myself, I'd like to see a picture of Jessica Biel in all her glory. She's #1 on my list of people I'd be allowed to get it on with if I was lucky enough to meet in person.
Ok..I agree with Matt, enough perv photos for one day! :) (I must say the pictures of Johnny and Matthew are very nice though)..
So here ya go Matt..
http://www.funmunch.com/celebrities/actresses/jessica_biel/index.shtml
Who can find a nice picture of a ladybug on a leaf?
Hey Liss,
I don't know if your having trouble or what, but that link didn't take me to any picture... it just continued to reload back to the main page. I got ripped!! That's the second time you used a link that didn't work right, I'd suggest testing it first.
ANYWAY... here's your ladybug, where's my Jessica??
http://www.sallad.net/gallery/d/14090-2/campus2_010.jpg
http://www.cinema-stars.com/jessicabiel/
There Matt...guess 3rd time's a charm! I have no idea why the ones I put up there won't work..doh! Anyway, sorry..and thanks for the pic of the ladybug! Your turn! :)
Hey Matt, thanks for the encouragement and the offer of a place to stay, you're such a sweetie. :D Me thinks a trip to the camp and longer days is in order.
Liss, you posted the pic, it's your turn baby!
You know what I do... I'll put pictures and in this case it would have been Jessica Biel in the search... pictures jessica biel... and it'll give you pictures of that. Usually loads of 'em and then you can just click on the individual thumbnails and it'll give you the link directly to just the picture.
Also to test it, as soon as I copy the link, I'll put it in the browser window and search it right away to be sure it works, then put it in here.
Hope that helps. :D
Now after all that, I'll probably screw up my next one!
OK..how 'bout a picture of the Grand Canyon?
Well that was fun. Now that I feel like a speck of dust, here's your picture...
http://mishilo.image.pbase.com/u40/rfrank999/large/26367501.Grand_Canyon_1904_web.jpg
Now, I'd like to see an up close picture of an eagle in flight with a fish in his talons...
Can't see the picture Kim! :(
I'll try finding one for you though..
http://www.hickerphoto.com/bald-eagle-6823-pictures.htm
Not sure if this'll work or not, but I'll try it! :)
Ya know what, looking at the two links that aren't working it looks like they're cut off or something. I know my link was working as I tested it right before I pasted it in here. Why would it be cutting it off? I betcha it has something to do with how it cuts things off in this layout for the comments.
Let's see how it posts this time, it's the same Grand Canyon picture...
http://mishilo.image.pbase.com/u40/rfrank999/large/26367501.Grand_Canyon_1904_web.jpg
Yup, it cut it off after the "large/2" and left out the rest of the URL, go figure. I'll try it this way and if not, I'll switch the comment layout again.
Great, now the visual verification's not working. :( Great picture of the eagle though Liss, I bookmarked that site. :D
Grrr, why does it keep cutting the %#@*%# link off!
http://mishilo.image.pbase.com/u40/rfrank999/large/2 6367501.Grand_Canyon_1904_web.jpg
Ok, it works but you have to take out the space between the 2 and the six. It's the only way I could get the whole link in.
Ok, I'm going to try changing back to the way I had the old layout. Never liked the look of this one anyways.
http://mishilo.image.pbase.com/u40/rfrank999/large/26367501.Grand_Canyon_1904_web.jpg
Oh, a little bit more of the link went in but still not the whole thing.
Apparently we'll have to find URLs that are shorter or abort this friggin' game?
BTW Liss, you are go...
Another pic of the Grand Canyon...
http://www.freespiritart.com/images/grand-canyon-revelation.jpg
Now that one went in and it even spans two lines! The underscores mebbe? Nope, Matt's has one! As long as they're not too long it seems to work.
Try this:
http://tinyurl.com/
"Are you sick of posting URLs in emails and elsewhere only to have them break when sent, causing the recipient to have to cut and paste it back together? By entering a URL in the text field at tinyurl.com, a shorter URL is created that will not break in email postings and never expire."
You're welcome! :)
Hey guys,
Just letting you know that your link DID work Kim from the beginning. Now that you have the comments in a popup, it's laying out your copied link in one complete line, hence the scroll bar at the bottom you need to use to scroll across and see it all and copy it all.
Liss, your turn.
OK..this is all way over my head..too much stress! :)
I take it that I have to pick a picture of something..so I'll choose a Rodesian Ridgeback dog.
Gaaahhhhhhhh, I'm not even seeing a scrolly bar. That tiny url link looks like it might come in handy for this game. Thanks Brian. At least you're seeing it all Matt. :D
Now off to find a picture of Kate.
Awww, how about a whole bunch of puppies? Now I see where Kate gets her expressive eyes from...
http://www.heatheridge.net/images/Rhodesian_puppies.jpg
Ok, I'd like to see a picture of a ghost, a real one, not Casper. :D
AWWW...now that's a cute picture Kim!
Here's a ghost picture for ya, hope it works!
http://www.ghostresearch.org/ghostpics/watertown.html
Oops, almost forgot. I'd like to see a picture of any castle in Scotland (which is where I'd love to go someday!) :)
Good one Liss, I remember seeing the original online somewhere. Their faces are perfectly formed in the waves. Kinda eerie.
Ah Scotland, my ancestral home. So many of them sadly in ruins...
http://www.holidaycityflash.com/article%20pix/edinburghcastle.JPG
And here's a map of different castles when you do go...
http://www.birchbrae.com/maps/castles.jpg
Now, I'd like to see a picture of a Rubik's Cube...
Nice one... here you go.
http://peter.stillhq.com/jasmine/blog/cube-arty-photo.gif
Now, I'd like to see a photo of Sparkle the Christmas Light.
LOL... Have fun with that one.
Cool cube pic. Love the DOF and composition.
Here's one of it. You had a choice between a blurry pic of it in the box or this one. At least it's lit. That proved to be a tough one...
http://twopeasinabucket.kaboose.com/pg.asp?cmd=display&layout_id=996971
Aw heck, since I'm still not seeing the scrolly, I'll post the blurry one too. It's the sixth picture down...
http://www.deater.net/weave/pictures/buffalo-12-2002/buffalo.html
Now, I'd like to see a pic of a really pretty flower.
I have no idea what type it is, but here you go.
http://www.scienceman.com/images/im_tulip_01.jpg
Great pictures of sparkle by the way. The exact same two I found. I researched it before I asked for it, just to be sure it was something you could find. Go figure!!
I want to see a picture of a beach in Mexico.
Here ya go Matt..
http://travelsinparadise.com/mexico/index.html
How 'bout a picture of the Sphinx?
I like this shot...
http://timonk.com/ewallpaper/sphinx_l.jpg
Now, I'd like to see a picture taken of a gondolier (preferrably cute) from inside a gondola in Venice. :D
This is the best I could come up with in such short time..
http://www.fotosearch.com/photos-images/gondolier_2.html
Sorry!
How about a picture of a honey bee?
Well, that picture took me to a place that had a bunch of pictures on it, for some reason it wouldn't take me directly to the gondolier. oh well, it was Kim's request.. ha ha ha. Here's your Bee.
http://static.flickr.com/33/65038344_52a45d090d_b.jpg
Now show me the money!!!!
OK...I know, I was real busy at work! Kim, here's a better one for ya,(he's not that great looking but oh well!) :)
http://www.fotosearch.com/IST172/el1837/
And Matt, here's the money!
http://www.fotosearch.com/DGT073/cb038623/
Now, show me a nice cold beer please! :)
BTW..nice bee picture Matt! :)
Don't think it gets much colder than this...
http://www.ferretpress.com/pictures/moc04/images/ogre_beer.jpg
You're right Liss, that guy wasn't all that cute but it'll definately work. Some day that will be me... in the boat, not shuttling it. My gondolier will be cute though. ;)
Now, I'd like to see a pic of a really icy tree, like after an ice storm...
Ha..now that's some cold brewskies!
Here's a picture of an icy tree for ya..
http://justinsomnia.org/gallery/v/icestorm2002/DCP_3676.jpg.html
I'd like a picture of the milky way! :) And no, not the chocolate bar...
Sigh, I still don't have a scroll bar at the bottom so I'm going to have to take your word for it and wait 'til tonight to see it at your place.
Your milky way...
http://www.astropix.com/IMAGES/D_SUM_S/MILKYWAY.JPG
How about a really colourful picture of the northern lights...
Here's a really cool pic..hope it works! :)
http://www.travelmanitoba.com/images_tr/image_library/northern_lights_lg.jpg
A picture of a tsunami?
Hey guys,
Wow, a picture of a tsunami... I've never actually thought to look for something like this before. I found some very interesting links and some scary pictures. Check these out.

http://library.thinkquest.org/03oct/00494/Tsunami/Tsunami2/Tsunami.jpg
I'd like to see a good action shot of AC/DC on stage.
Cool Tsunami shots, the first one really rocked. You can see that the lone car on the shore side is S.O.L. That's one big wave man.
Your AC/DC shot. It's the best I could do, the rest were all really small...
http://home.ewr-online.de/~ruhrig/stars2000/AC_DC.JPG
Now, I'd like to see a picture of a really big snake wrapped around someone...
Matt, those pictures were really cool!
Kim, here's your snake picture..
http://www.fotosearch.com/BNS268/ppt013/
Now, I want to see a tornado..a really big one! :)
Ok, I'm finding a bunch here. They're not necessarily all big but definately cool...

That was fun! Now, on that last note, I'd like to see a really cool lightning shot...
Cool pics Kim! I've become obsessed with the lightening pictures..lots of cool stuff to look at! Here's some, I had to draw the line somewhere..heh heh!

I'd like a picture of the most beautiful sunset ever! :) I know I've already asked for one, but there's nothing I love more than a sunset, so..frig it!
Well that was certainly entertaining. Good pics Liss, that second last one was cool. It was striking a tree.
Picking out the perfect sunset pic was equally as hard, lots of good ones...

Wow, I started something here by posting more than one link... now everyone is putting in 4 or more... ha ha. Here's your rearing horse.
http://www.jackiemorris.co.uk/images/linksimages/giffordsrearinghorse.jpg
Can someone show me a photo of the Miramichi Bridge?
Here's the bridge for ya Matt..
http://www.flickr.com/photos/90979011@N00/215461613/
How 'bout a picture of an earthquake (ground split up)??
Bah, once again, my scroll bar at the bottom is noticeably absent. :( got to see the bridge though. Wanna see a nice bridge pic Matt just scroll through my blog, hehee!
An overpass split up...

That was fun and makes me thankful I don't live on a major fault line. Now I'd like to see a picture of massive amounts of snow in a major city...
I can't play this game at work, it takes way too long! :) I found the coolest website with lots of old pictures, ...

They're not really "city" shots but they're still pretty neat.
I want pictures of somebody bungee jumping! :)
Those are some really cool shots Liss. I love old photos. That last one was a cool shot. Really puts it in perspective.
Ah bungee jumping, the ultimate leap of faith.
