Ah what a great weekend. Then again, any weekend back the camp's better than no weekend at all. It was a weekend of surprising firsts as well. You guys might want to write this one in on a calendar 'cause on saturday, january 13th, Liss actually caught something for the first time I can remember. Her catching's so bad it has been a big ongoing joke for years. I lost all train of thought when it happened too, it was like a freeze frame moment out of, "Chariots of Fire." I could even almost hear the music. Another first? You know he's exhausted when Mitchell goes to bed last night at 8:30pm. Mind blowing, that is!
I'll leave the details as to who got where at what times up to Liss on the camp blog but there was one detail in particular that has to be left up to me as it was another, "life flashing before my eyes," event. Well, not quite that bad but lumber was definately flying before my eyes.
Winter time at the camp's always lots of fun. The sixteen layers (eh Scott) aren't always as fun or the trips it usually takes to get everything back there by sled (attached to bikes or snowmobiles) can be a little trying but when you have a great weekend that allows you to drive right in to the camp, anything's possible. Friday night was just such an example.
Since it wasn't snowy enough to need the snowmobile, the bike was brought. The Skidd's have a sled that allows you to stand on the back, like you're driving a team of dogs. I love getting on that thing even though it's not as much fun with the runners on it, ya can't quite, "crack the whip," like you used to. We loaded up with Darcy driving, me on the back of the sled and Scott and Liss on his bike.
We started out leading but of course, a bike pulling a trailer goes much slower than a bike not pulling a trailer. First opportunity, Scott had enough and passed, laughing the whole way. This is an ongoing battle between Scott and Darcy. Personally, I think they do it to see who can get the other riled up more.
Going, "Round back," seemed like such a good idea at the time. The trail's weren't overly broken but the bikes were pulling along fine. With Scott and Liss further up the trail, we were climbing speed and going along at around 40km/h. I know I've had a couple of posts on here about stopping in the blink of an eye, well this is right up there with them.
Everything's going splendidly and I'm having a blast until, "Ka-pow," we then came to a dead stop... well, the sled did anyways. As I was flying through the air (a la Superman) wondering where the hell the sled is... in front of me, all I see is the bike going with the bar that hooks the sled to it and a few bits of lumber. After Darcy and I laughed 'til it hurt, Liss and Scott came back across the brook to find that all hell had broken loose. I don't know how they didn't hear us howling like buffoons. Needless to say, the sled wasn't moving for the rest of the weekend.
Unfortunately, the cold weather we were supposed to get on sunday, settled in saturday evening. So fortunately for us, that kept outdoor activities to a minimum, which was probably for the best anyways. We migrated indoors and had a dandy time with some sing alongs and preying on the innocent. We had Andy (Tracy's man) join us for his first camp adventure with us. Hopefully we didn't scare the guy off too bad with our vulture ways. He seemed to be having a good time. Even while sleeping he kept us entertained with the loudest and craziest snoring I've ever heard. I'm glad I no longer hold the title... thanks Andy!
On to some random pictures of the weekend. This one was taken for Dean who always asks how the camp road was. Even used my new tripod for ya, good buddy!
Now this thing's really strange. This isn't the first time we've seen it. It takes on a humanoid shape. Dunno, must have something to do with the drafts along that outer window or something.
Some party pictures. This one's of the girls who were the official, "Shaker and Woo Woo," section. Jake was there, even though you can't see him. He wasn't much for the party after the guitar took over his bed...
I love this picture. I have no idea what song we were doing but the girls really do seem to be getting into it...
Now this next picture's not supposed to see the light of day and I'm quite sure I'll be made to regret posting it in the future but hey, it's too funny to not share with the rest of the world. Check out the look on Darcy's face...
Darcy decided he wanted to have a go at the shaking and that's just what he was doing on either side of my head as this picture was taken...
Of course, no camp weekend would be complete without pictures of the most photographed dog in the world. Those Weimariner dogs got nothing on Jake. Here's Jake all peeved that the guitar's on his bed. It was too funny, he wouldn't even look at it...
He finally gets the bed to himself...
This one we were trying to get him off the bed and he really didn't want to come so he was crawling along. The look on his face is such a typical Jake look, he's so expressive...
Apparently we weren't exciting enough for him...
After all the blackmail pictures, I thought I'd include a nice one of the girls even though Tracy thought she looked like a floating head I think we look just fine...
This picture's just too funny, sorry Andy. Needless to say, Tracy wasn't in bed and Andy rolled over to find Jake in her place...
That pretty much sums up the weekend's events in a nutshell. We finally figured out how to get our breakfasts. Take advantage of the drunks with the munchies the night before. Thanks Darcy, it was delicious.
'Til next time...

Ohhh Game on.
I thought we had a understanding, I guess not
Darcy (MAYOR)
Hahahahaha! It's even better when you click on it and get to see it in all it's full-size glory.
Don't worry, I know the war's now on but ya know what? It was sssoooo worth it! :D
Kim (Overthrower)
BTW gang, open to comments on the game. Haven't really had time to think one up yet.
Have at 'er!
Ok, a game just came to me. How about, "Music Trivia?" Basically it can be any question concerning music. For example;
"What band has a one armed drummer?"
OK, since I can't play this while I'm working anymore (site is restricted for some reason..ugh!)..I'll have to make up for it when I'm home! :)
Good game idea Kim, but it'll be hard I think! I do know the answer to your question though, it's Def Leppard, and the drummer is Rick Allen.
So, now I've gotta come up with one..hmmmm...
What is the name of the heavy metal band (big in the 80's), who's lead singer recently "came out of the closet"? LOL
I'm not sure if I dreamt this or not but didn't Dave Mustane of Megadeth come out of the closet?
Heehee, as for the restricted at work thing, they're on to you, me thinks. :D
Never heard about that one! LOL..keep tryin'!
Hint: They sing a song called "Turbo Lover"....now you should know! :)
What? Judas Priest is gay? Holy frig, that's a new one to me. Ok, now that I'm traumatized, I'll have to think of another one. This should be an easy one...
"What heavy metal band lost a bassist in the 80's, how did it happen and what was his name?"
Well, Thin Lizzy's lead singer and bassist, Phil Lynott, died in '86.
From Wikipedia...
"Lynott's last years were dogged by drug and alcohol dependency, and the night of December 25, 1985, he was rushed to hospital suffering from a heroin overdose. He died of heart failure and pneumonia on January 4, 1986 at the age of 36."
But this isn't the right answer though, 'cause Thin Lizzy broke up in 1983.
Actually, I think the person you're thinking of is Metallica's Cliff Burton. He was killed in a bus accident while on tour in Sweden with Metallica in 1986. He was only 24.
Or maybe I'm way off altogether...
That's it Brian, you got 'er, it was Cliff. Take 'er away.
Oh, and welcome back! Have a good weekend?
Great weekend! (An even better one comin' up! Hee hee.)
Q: What is the best-selling album of all time?
Hmmmm..I'm gonna guess and say Michael Jackson's "Thriller" ??
Ah Liss, I see you're no longer cut off, heehee!
Actually, I'm home...feelin' pretty icky today!
"Thriller" used to be, but not anymore. It's now second on the list.
Gosh.. I have no clue! Guess I'll need a hint! :)
That would have been my guess too. Umm, a Stones album? 40 Licks should be up there.
Maybe something by the Beatles??
Nope and nope.
Hint: It's a Greatest Hits album by a group.
Okay..I'm gonna take two more guesses..ha ha. Is it Fleetwood Mac or The Eagles?
According to the Record Industry Association of America, as of March 2006, "Greatest Hits Vol. 1" by The Eagles is the best-selling album in history. The top 10 albums with number of copies sold are as follows:
1. Eagles - Greatest Hits Vol. 1 (29 million)
2. Michael Jackson - Thriller (27 million)
3. Led Zeppelin - Led Zeppelin IV (23 million)
4. Pink Floyd - The Wall (23 million)
5. Billy Joel - Greatest Hits Volumes I & II (21 million)
6. AC/DC - Back In Black (21 million)
7. Garth Brooks - Double Live (20 million)
8. Shania Twain - Come On Over (20 million)
9. The Beatles - The Beatles (19 million)
10. Fleetwood Mac - Rumours (19 million)

Liss's turn...
Thanks for the info! Guess that music trivia game I bought Nick for Christmas came in handy..lol!
Ok..
What legendary soul singer wrecked his Corvette the first time he drove it?
James Brown?
You are correct sir! Looks like you are go! :)
Wow, what a guess!
Ok, here I'm go then.
Q: Bon Scott died of "acute alcohol poisoning" in 1980. What city was he in at the time of his death?
Wow, I honestly have no idea! I'll guess and say "Paris" ...?? Isn't that where Jim Morrison died?
Morrison died in Paris, but not Bon. It was in another city in Europe, though.
OK..I'll take another stab and say London?
Since we're guessing, how about Venice?
London is correct. (Can't picture Bon in Venice, Kim. :)
You are a go, Liss...
Ha ha..
U2's "Angel of Harlem" was written about what singer?
Umm...Billie Holliday?
Good job...you are go! :)
Ok!
Q: Name two of the other acts on the bill with The Rolling Stones at the disastrous Altamont Free Concert in California on Dec. 4, 1969.
...?
Umm..I think I might know one, "Jefferson Airplane"? I was watching some video clips of that concert on you tube. I'm pretty sure they were there, but I'll need a hint for any other acts! :)
Jefferson Airplane was one! Hint: Three of the other four also appeared at the Woodstock festival 4 months earlier.
OK..I'm guessing totally! I'll say Crosy, Stills, Nash and Young? I know they did Woodstock..not sure about the Altamont Free concert though.
Ding! Correct. Other bands that appeared with The Stones at Altamont were Jefferson Airplane, CSNY, Santana and The Flying Burrito Brothers. (The Grateful Dead were scheduled to perform, but refused when Marty Balin of Jefferson Airplane was knocked unconscious following an altercation with a member of the Hells Angels. The Dead refused to play following the Balin incident, and promptly left the venue. This incident (and the killing of 18-year old Meredith Hunter by the Angels in front of the stage) can be seen in the documentary film "Gimme Shelter."
Sincerely,
"theoriginalwikipediaboy" :)
Go to 'er, Liss...
Well..I was really just guessing, but I'll go ahead anyway! :) Very interesting info!
Andy Warhol conceived and photographed the cover of which Rolling Stones album?
"Sticky Fingers" (the one with an actual working zipper on the cover). It was also the first album to be released on the new Rolling Stones record label, and the first to feature the "lips & tongue" logo design.
Next...
Q: Name an artist or group that will be inducted into The Rock n' Roll Hall Of Fame on March 12, 2007 (five acts are being inducted this year).
...?
OK..I'm gonna guess..U2?
Van Halen? :)
Yup! Inductees this year are Van Halen, R.E.M., Patti Smith, Grandmaster Flash & The Furious Five and The Ronettes.
Woo hoo!
OK..next!
What was the first rock-n-roll song to hit #1 on the charts?
Umm...I'll guess and say "Rock Around The Clock" by Bill Haley and The Comets.
Wow..good guess! You nailed it! Your turn..
Brian'll likely be gone fore the weekend Liss, you take 'er away.
Yeah, you're probably right! :) I'll forfeit a turn when he comes back..
Till then,
Who was the top-selling album artist of the 1970's according to Billboard?
I gotta name artist and album? How about an artist and we'll go from there. Steve Miller?
Nope, it not Steve Miller, and you only have to name the artist. Here's a hint, think of wacky glasses..
Hope that helps! :)
Phew, slept in late today. Sorry. Wacky glasses can only be Elton John? I'll just go with that and get another one out in hopes that you'll get to play it before you go to work. Hmm, interesting, since The River's on continuous play in this house, Elton's now playing.
"Photographer Annie Leibovitz shot Bruce Springstein's rear view for the cover of this best selling album."
Just in time Kim..ha ha! You were right about Elton...and the answer to your question is Bruce Springsteen's "Born in the USA" album.
Next!
What was the very first video to premiere on MTV?
I'm back, baby!
The first video to be shown on MTV was "Video Killed The Radio Star" by The Rutles.
Another rock n' roll death question:
Q: How did Brian Jones, guitarist and founding member of The Rolling Stones, die in 1969?
Didn't he drown? And..didn't he have a bunch of drugs and alcohol in his system? I think there were rumours that he was murdered..so I guess I really don't know! ha ha
Wikipedia says...
"At around midnight on 3 July 1969, Brian Jones was discovered motionless at the bottom of his swimming pool at his home in Hartfield, Sussex, England. He had been at the bottom of the pool for only a matter of minutes. His girlfriend, Anna Wohlin, is convinced he was still alive when they pulled him out; she insists that he still had a pulse. However when the doctors arrived, it was too late for Brian and he was pronounced dead on the scene. The coroner's report stated "Death by misadventure," and noted that his liver and heart were heavily enlarged by drug and alcohol abuse.
In 2000, Wohlin claimed that Jones had been murdered by a construction worker who had been staying with them and renovating the house the couple shared. The builder, Frank Thorogood, allegedly confessed to the murder on his deathbed to the Rolling Stones' driver, Tom Keylock. However, it should be noted that there were no other witnesses to this confession. In her book, "The Murder Of Brian Jones," Wohlin alleges that Frank Thorogood behaved suspiciously and showed little sympathy when Jones was discovered in the pool (he was also the last one to see Brian alive). She also admits that she was not actually present at the time of Jones' death. Witnesses have been interviewed by various journalists who claim to have seen the 'murder.' These witnesses almost always use aliases though, and none of them have been prepared to go on record or report what they claim to have seen to the police."
Spooky!
Liss - You! Are! Go! :)
Interesting...Verrryyy interesting! :)
What heavy metal band has had as many as 29 different members over a 30 year period?
Good question! I'll have to guess and say...Black Sabbath?
Yep..you are go! :)
Giddy-up!
Q: Paul Rodgers, lead singer of Bad Company, was the lead singer of which band before Bad Company?
Hmmm..me thinks a hint is required! :)
All right now...a hint...wait, I just gave ya one. :)
Is it Free?
Absolutely!
Eh...you must...go now.
OK! :)
What studio did the Beatles use to record 191 songs?
Um...guessing here...was it 'Abbey Road'?
Good guess! :D
Thanks! But is it right?
Yes! Sorry..I forgot to say, you are go! :)
Two-part Q:
A) What band was forced to alter the lyrics to one of their songs in order to appear on "The Ed Sullivan Show" on Jan. 15, 1967?
B) What song was it and how was it changed?
OK..I'm thinkin' it was The Doors. Wasn't it "Light My Fire", and they had to change the word "higher" to something? I'm not totally sure, but I remember that from The Doors movie. Maybe I'm totally off! :)
This is true of the Doors' only appearance on Ed Sullivan in Sept. of '67; the show's network censors demanded the group to change the lyrics of "Light My Fire" (altering the line, "Girl we couldn't get much higher," because of what they alleged was a reference to drugs). Jim Morrison agreed, but then changed his mind after a quick band meeting and sang the original line instead with notice to the show's producers. (In truth, Morrison insisted that it was an accident, and that he meant to change the lyric but was so nervous about performing on live television that he forgot to change it when he was singing. Sullivan was reportedly so furious that he refused to shake their hands. They were never invited back.)
So, not The Doors! The band I'm thinking of actually sang alternate lyrics on the air.
OK..I'll keep thinkin' on it! :)
Was it the Stones?
Yes, it was! Any idea what the song was and how they changed it?
Oooh Oooh, was it, "Star Star," otherwise known as, "Star Fucker?" Man, is that song that old?
Did they even release the song "Star Star"? I'm thinking it would have to be one of their hits from that time period. The album "Flowers" came out that year, so the only song even remotely suggestive is "Let's Spend the Night Together"...but I can't imagine how they'd change that! I don't know! Help! :)
It was indeed "Let's Spend The Night Together." The Sullivan Show ordered the Stones change the lyrics to, "Let's spend some time together." Mick Jagger's dissatisfaction about the whole thing is visible during the band's performance; he rolls his eyes when he reaches the part where he's forced to sing such goofy lyrics.
Melissa's turn...
"Let's spend some time together"...hee hee! I can see why he'd roll his eyes! :)
It's hard coming up with these questions!
Um..what is the best-selling musical instrument in the world?
I would have to venture a guess and say the guitar?
Nope (although I would have thought that too)! Keep guessin'! :)
Ok, I was torn between that and tossed around, "piano."
And that's my final answer, well, unless that one's not right either! ;)
nope! :)
Ok, now I'm just gonna go through instruments, maracas? Drums? Woo woo shakers?
Nope, nope and nope! :) You wanna hint?
Oooh, how about those recorders we used to get in school? If that's not it, me thinks I'm gonna need a hint. :D
OK..here's a real good hint, and it should give it away no problem! :) This instrument is also called a "mouth organ".
The harmonica? You've got to be kidding me. I could have guessed all day and never would have guessed that one. Ok, on to the next one...
"What was the number one selling song in 1982?"
OMG..I have no idea. I'll guess and say "Centerfold"?? Might need a hint..:)
It was a song about a girl and they had overalls on in the video. Surely that should do it.
If not, call Coll. :D
Was it "C'mon Eileen" ??
Das da one, baby. You are go...
OK..
When the Stones settled in to record the album "Exile on Main Street", this song was originally titled "Good Time Woman" and sported a set of lyrics completely different from its eventual complete version. Engineer Randy Johns recalls the recording of this cut as one of the hardest sessions of his career, especially considering that it was done in Keith Richards' basement in the south of France and that the guitarist was, consequently, "distracted" most of the time, often showing up four hours late, then adjourning for another hour or so to "put his children to bed". Which tune finally emerged from this nightmarish ordeal?
Hmmmm, was there ever a recording done of this version?
Yes, it's an actual song, and it's one that you know! :)
If that's the case then I believe it's, "Tumbling Dice?" I'm not 100% on that one so I'll await the official word from our sponsors. :D
You are correct! :)
Ok, trivia question eh?
What is Axl Rose's real name?
I know the first name is William but I'm not sure about his last name...
It's not Hung! ;) Feel free to Google it unless you just want me to tell you. That kinda defeats the purpose though and it's not like I can really give you hints on it.
Hmmm, or mebbe I can. His middle name's shared with Darla's new husband and the last name's a flower and one that'll look familiar.
Ok I googled it, it says it's William Bruce Rose, but it also says William Bailey.
Movin' on..
What Beatles single lasted longest on the charts, at 19 weeks?
Man I hate the Beatles and can't even begin to venture a guess. Someone else'll have to take this one. :D
OK..I'll give ya a real big hint!
The song title has two words, the first word is "Hey"...now you should know it. :)
Ok, I might be able to handle that one. That's one of the few songs of theirs I don't detest, if it's the right one... "Hey Jude?"
Yep, you got 'er! Your turn Kim..
How about, "Baby Got Back?" Sorry for not being harder but it's early. :D
OK..that's Sir Mix a Lot, but was that your music trivia question? LOL I think you got the games mixed up! Oh well! :)
What Rolling Stones song did Keith Richards "dream" the riff of, and it went on to become a big hit?
What, me screw up which game I'm playing? Can't see it happening. ;)
Guess for the song even though I've heard it before but I can't remember what the answer was, "Little T & A?"
Nope..keep tryin'! :)
How about Sympathy?
Nope! Wanna hint?
Either that or we're likely going to have to go through a bunch of Stone's songs before I finally get it right. :D
"I Can't Get No.."...easy enough for ya? :)
Holy frig, and of course it would be one of their most known songs. Let me see, food? happiness? sugar? Oooh oooh, wait, satisfaction? ;)
Ok, this is the music trivia game and not the name that song game, right?
"How many #1 hits has superstar Bruce Springsteen had?"
UMMM...I have no idea, so I'll guess and say 12?
Nope, not even close... :D I couldn't believe it either!
OK..more or less? I'll go with less and say 3?
Less again, waayyyy less! :D
Zero???
You got 'er Liss. I know, hard to imagine, eh?
